Who would have imagined meeting the person of our lives at a barbecue in Cambridge, on a classically rainy English day! And yet, from that day on our journey together began: years of shared life, adventures, emotions, and unforgettable experiences, travelling the world side by side and even obtaining a second citizenship. Today, we have decided to say yes to each other forever. We cannot wait to celebrate the beginning of this new chapter surrounded by the people who mean the most to us.

Getting there

Arezzo is in Tuscany and can be reached easily by train or by car. Arezzo station is the most convenient stop for rail travel, and for guests arriving by plane the most practical airports are Florence, Pisa, Perugia, Bologna, and Rome Fiumicino.

Once in the city, the historic center is easy to explore on foot.

For guests arriving by car, Pietri parking is a paid parking lot just outside the historic centre, but it also has a free section where you can park.

Once you are in Arezzo

Below are a few ideas for spending time in the city, from places to visit to food and nearby escapes.

What to visit?

Arezzo is a medieval gem, perfect for exploring on foot through its little streets and discovering its history.

We recommend not missing the beautiful Piazza Grande and the distinctive Church of Santa Maria della Pieve. A short walk away, you can admire Piero della Francesca’s frescoes in the Basilica of San Francesco, or enjoy the view from Il Prato Park, right next to the Cathedral. For one last art stop, the wonderful Giorgio Vasari’s House is also well worth a visit.

Local food

Arezzo is a great place to enjoy Tuscan food, and we strongly recommend trying the classic crostini neri, pappa al pomodoro, or pici all'aglione or with Chianina or wild boar ragù. For a main course, try a tagliata with truffle or porcini mushrooms, or any other seasonal dish that includes them.

Where to eat: typical trattorias such as Antica Osteria l'Agania, Il Cantuccio, and Vineria Dal Chiodo; for pizza and schiacciate, Gli Ostinati, Al Fogher, and La Piccina (Tuscan schiacciata sandwich).

Explore the surroundings

If you want to make the most of the trip and explore Tuscany, here are some of the most iconic and well-known places within easy reach of Arezzo.

Just outside town: La Verna Sanctuary and Cortona.

Iconic cities: Florence - easy to reach by train - and Siena.

Famous towns: Montepulciano and Montalcino (both also known for wine), Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia (in the heart of Val d'Orcia, with its postcard landscapes).

Where to stay

For your convenience, we recommend staying in Arezzo's city centre, since the ceremony will take place at the Duomo of Arezzo and we have organised round-trip buses from the city centre to La Colombaia for you. Here are a few recommended hotels, but there are plenty of B&Bs in the centre of Arezzo that work just as well. If you need advice, message us!

Hotel l'Aretino

The hotel is centrally located, close to the station. We have blocked rooms from the 9th to the 11th October for anyone interested, with breakfast included and free cancellation up to two weeks before with the following rates:

Double room: €119 per night
Superior single use: €99 per night

How to book: simply email info@laretinohotel.com with the subject "Wedding - 9 October - Martin Martina", specifying the name of the guest, the dates of the stay, and the chosen room type. A card will be required as a guarantee (no upfront payment).

Hotel Continentale

It is a classic 4-star hotel located right in the centre and a short distance from the station, very convenient for walking around and with a bar with a terrace.

Hotel Minerva

The property is a little further out from the centre, about a 20-minute walk from the Duomo. It is a great alternative, especially if you are arriving by car, since it has a large free private parking area.
